The secondary aspiration unlocks Sims' possibilities for new wants and fears that are outside their primary aspiration. Sims can choose their secondary aspiration as an aspiration benefit. The new simology includes hobby enthusiasm for each Sim. Sims who do activities relevant to a particular hobby will gain enthusiasm in that hobby, and will be able to unlock more and more benefits as they become more enthusiastic in that hobby.

Each Sim has a predestined hobby, and Sims will build enthusiasm for that hobby faster than for the others. Sims who have gained enough enthusiasm in a hobby will discover a secret hobby lot. The instructor for that hobby will give the Sim membership in the hobby club, which will grant them entry to the secret lot. The hobby lot can only be visited by Sims who have a membership, though they can bring other Sims with them.

BFF is a new friendship level. Two Sims who are best friends long enough will develop the BFF relationship. BFFs will have a slower daily relationship decay, and will never fall out of friendship, even if they are furious with each other. BFFs also have benefits, such as an autonomous "far away greet" interaction, and the ability to tell inside jokes.

Sims' townie friends no longer remain the same age forever. Whenever a Sim grows up, they can choose any 3 townies they know to grow up together. With this feature, childhood friends can grow older, and teen couples can get married when they're old enough. Genies can grant three wishes to Sims who have received the Dusty Old Lamp. Sims can now play the violin and the synthesizer as well as the piano and guitar, bass and drums if University is installed.

They can also practice ballet on the ballet bar, enter dance contests and also teach their toddlers nursery rhymes. Nature-loving Sims find gardening, fishing, bug collecting and birdwatching interesting.

If the Sim goes hiking there is a chance they will find an unusual bug which will start a bug collection. This can be hung on a wall or put on a table. When the Sims goes hiking he also runs the risk of being followed home by angry swarms of bees.

Science hobby items gained with FreeTime include an ant farm and new telescope interactions. Sims can now choose to search for planets, constellations and UFOs. Sims can also choose to summon aliens. When they use this interaction as an adult or teen, they get abducted, regardless of their gender, but only adult male Sims will become impregnated with an alien child.

Tinkering allows Sims to tinker various electronic devices in the house and also restoring a car to sell it for profit. The restored car can also be used as the family car with the ability to paint it a different color. There is also a new train set which a Sim can decorate and design. Sims cannot however age friends, in the same way, if they are going to university.

Five new career tracks and their reward objects are added with FreeTime. These are oceanographers, entertainers, architects, dancers, and intelligence agents. Oceanographers can earn a koi pond, entertainers can get their own star of fame, architects can use their own drafting table, dancers can receive an improved ballet bar and intelligence agents can use a listening device.

Any kind of physical exercise from throwing axes or footballs to boxing or playing soccer and basketball gets them excited. Sims with high body skill are going to be more enthusiastic about sports. The wonders of science are very appealing to some Sims.

Studying the stars or ants, practicing or making medicine, will get them even more enthusiastic about it. Sims who have high logic will be more enthusiastic about science. Sims love to play, but some like it more than other, Game sims get lost in card games, board games or digital entertainment alike. Having high logic makes it easier for them to maintain high enthusiasm for games.
